Rooted in Real Life #Faction (fiction based on fact) #Adventure #Storytelling

Looking for "gold nugget" ideas? Mine true experiences.

Years ago a co-worker shared a story that held me spellbound. Drastic times require drastic action. When his teenagers got out of control, he took a year's leave of absence, leased their home, and moved the family hundreds of miles away from everything they knew. For years, the man and his wife's courageous actions amazed me until I realized what a great story it would make.

Busted and Banished

Thirteen-year-old Tyler and his twelve-year-old sister Caitlin think being suspended from school for violating rules is no big deal . . . until a friend rats Ty out about a serious incident of vandalism and the police show up at the Clark family's front door.

The worst is yet to come. Ty and Cat’s parents move to the wilds of eastern Oregon. No electricity. No running water. No inside plumbing. No TV. No Facebook. No Twitter or iPods. Just months of hard work, homeschooling, scary noises in the night, and no one else for miles around. The teens hate it.

Storms rage inside and outside the isolated log cabin. Will the need to survive the threat of tragedy reunite the broken family?

I have visited the eastern Oregon setting for this book many times, but never in winter!

A Family in Danger by [Colleen L. Reece]

Author's Note

Most of you don’t live in log cabins. Neither did I. But our house had a lot in common with the one in A Family in Danger.* We lived near the little logging town of Darrington, Washington. We had no electricity or running water. I learned to read by kerosene lamplight—and hated going to the outhouse in winter!

I loved to read and decided to someday write a book. That “someday” book has grown to 165+ titles, with six million copies sold. My family-oriented stories rely on what I learned from growing up in a home filled with love for God and family. A Family in Danger is based on the Clarks' (names changed) experiences, as well as my own.
