Look to the Future but Remember the Past #Beating the Blues and blahs #Coping

"OVER" is a lovely word--especially when applied to the year 2020. As I reflect on the past, enjoy the present, and anticipate a brighter future, random moments that came about because of being grounded come to mind.

Last summer a dear friend asked about social distancing. It heralded a weekly Friday afternoon visit in my front yard. Or the driveway. Or in my garage. I am currently anticipating another time together with my faithful friend this afternoon.

The cul-de-sac area where I live is perfect for walking. Its small-town feel lures folks of all ages, especially since other activities have been curtailed.

A young woman from Oman who attends the college nearby and I walked on a sunny day, keeping a safe distance. I couldn't help clowning around. Such fun. She snapped a photo and laughed in delight.

One summer morning I looked out to see members of my Classy Writers critique group ambling up my driveway with safe distance between each. What a welcome surprise! I had not seen any of them since our early spring meeting. We grabbed lawn chairs, positioned ourselves within hearing, but not dangerous distance, and thoroughly enjoyed each others' company. They had been walking the trails near my home and decided to stop by.

It became a Thursday morning tradition. Sometimes, several, at other times, one or two. When it rained, we moved into my spacious double garage that houses one vehicle. As the weather turned colder, clothing layers and warm "blankies' became the norm. Yesterday, only one came. Bundled like Eskimos, we "made another memory" to be treasured, sharing laughter and gratitude for simply being together.

Yes, it has been a hard year. No, we aren't sure of what comes next. The important thing is, the human spirit rallies from even the sharpest blows and moves on. May you and yours find peace, joy, and the courage to "keep on" keeping on.

 HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Love and blessings,

Colleen

New year's blessings to you, too, Colleen. You always focus on the positive side of things. Not always easy to do.
