Love is . . .#Valentine's Day

Ask a group of people about love and happiness. You'll get a variety of answers. Here are some of my favorites.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends," John 15:13, KJV.

"Happiness is a Warm Puppy," Charlie Brown.

From There is Always Love, by Emilie Loring, copyright 1940, as applicable today as then.

"The world may be convulsed with war and hate; the earth may tremble from the onward march of army tanks and heavy guns; our economic cauldron may boil violently; empires may rise and fall; yet there is always love. Love between husband and wife, between parent and child, between boy and girl, love for the church."

From 1 Corinthians 13, NIV.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Love in Action

The story is told of a man who searched for an example of perfect love. He finally discovered it in the actions of a four-year-old child, whose neighbor had lost her husband of many years. No amount of love and caring could break through the wall of hurt surrounding the bereaved widow.

One day the little boy slipped next door. A little later, the woman came with him to the porch. She hugged the child and actually smiled as he trotted home.

His mother marveled at the dramatic change. "Son, what did you say to her?"

The child replied, "Nothing. I just sat on her lap and helped her cry."

The greatest love message.
