Meet Susan Page Davis

Collections

A story is told about a young minister on his way to his first church. The plane developed engine trouble. "Pray for us," the passengers pleaded, but the young man was so frightened no words came.

"Well, do something religious!" a man shouted.

The minister took up a collection.

The story doesn't tell us if he collected anything or got to his destination. But one way for us  to reach our destination is  to be included in collections. Doing so gives exposure and keeps our names before the public.

Over the years I have been privileged to be part of multiple collections, including more than a dozen book titles with co-author Julie Reece-DeMarco. I've also shared space with fellow authors including Wanda Brunstetter, Anita Corrine Donihue, Birdie Etchison, JoAnn A. Grote, Janelle Burnham Schneider, and Yvonne Lehman. Coming soon: three 4-author novella collections. OREGON includes Renee Riva. Birdie is in both ALASKA and IDAHO.

The most recent pairing is with one of my favorite authors/ book trading partners, Susan Page Davis. Her titles fill up a lot of space on my "keeper" shelf. What fun.

Susan writes romantic suspense, historical romance, and mystery. She is a Maine native now living in Kentucky, and a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers and KenTen Writers. Her books have won several awards including the Carol Award for her novel The Prisoner's Wife; the Inspirational Readers' Choice Award for The Prisoner's Wife and The Lumberjack's Lady (Maine Brides series); and the Will Rogers Medallion Award for her novels Captive Trail (Texas Trails series, 2012) and The Outlaw Takes a Bride (2016).

When Barbour Publishing decided to reissue Susan's exciting historical novel Almost Arizona, they included my Honor Bound, also set in Arizona, as a bonus book and chose  Desert Moon as a collection title.

Hooked by the first sentences

 September 1911

She couldn't have Arizona unless she shared it with Adam Scott. That was horribly unfair.

The stagecoach rolled out of Flagstaff, and Julia Newman leaned eagerly toward the window to see every landmark along the dusty road . . . Some would call this land bleak and unforgiving, but Julia loved Arizona. She'd longed for it during her two years away.

She ignored the three male passengers for nearly an hour . . . having pegged them as a businessman, a rancher, and a miner. Harmless, but uninteresting compare to the scenery . . . .

These few words raised questions. Who is Adam Scott? Why can't Julia have Arizona unless she shares it with him? Why would that be unfair? Where has Julia been for the past two years?
Are her fellow passengers really harmless?

And then the stagecoach is held up, with chilling results. A 5-star read.

Susan's reason for writing

I love to tell stories and share them with readers. Connecting with people is the biggest reward for my writing. I still have lots of stories, and I hope to be able to tell many of them.

Her best advice for writers

Read a lot. Read in the genre you write in, but read outside it, too. And write every day.

Honor Bound synopsis

World War I has ended, but not for Honor Brooks, whose brother gave his life fighting to keep America free. She dreams of living on an Arizona cattle ranch, but at Casa del Sol, “house of the sun,” Honor’s dream becomes a nightmare. Bound by a sacred vow, she must make a terrible choice—break her sworn word or face a future unlike anything she ever envisioned.

If you enjoy western romance, mosey on over to Amazon and give Desert Moon a gander.

She is a real winner. One of the top Heartsong authors, then went on to write mysteries and romances for Guideposts, etc.
